PRACTICAL GUIDES / NO. 56

Bring Kobo highlights into one hub.

A highlight can travel only when both readers agree which text it belongs to.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Make a highlight in the Binge Reader-delivered Kobo book and run Kobo Sync. Find it in Binge Reader’s annotations. For the reverse direction, enable Sync Binge Reader highlights to Kobo, create a web highlight, and sync the Kobo again.

01

Import from Kobo

Kobo highlights on synced books are accepted during device sync. After highlighting, leave the book and run Sync. Filter the annotation hub by book or source instead of searching the whole library manually.

02

Enable the return trip

In Settings → Kobo, enable the option to send Binge Reader highlights to Kobo. The destination must be the generated KEPUB; a regular or manually copied EPUB may not provide the precise Kobo position needed.

03

Verify edits and deletes carefully

Create one disposable test highlight before relying on the workflow. Check the passage, note, color or style, then edit or delete it and sync again. Export valuable notes before replacing a book file.

MAKE IT YOURS

A useful next step.

  1. Highlight a sentence on Kobo.
  2. Run Kobo Sync.
  3. Find it in Binge Reader annotations.
  4. Enable outbound sync and test the reverse direction.

A few things worth asking.

Why do Kobo highlights arrive but web highlights do not?

Enable outbound highlight sync and confirm the Kobo is using the delivered KEPUB rather than a regular or manually copied EPUB.

Will highlights survive replacing the ebook file?

A changed file can invalidate text positions. Export important annotations before replacing or reconverting a book.
