PRACTICAL GUIDES / NO. 67

Use Binge Reader alongside Apple Books.

The file can move between libraries even when the reading state does not.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Download a DRM-free EPUB you own from Binge Reader, open the iOS or macOS share sheet, and choose Books to import it into Apple Books. This creates an Apple Books copy; reading position and highlights do not sync back to Binge Reader.

01

Download the original file

Open the book in Binge Reader and choose its download action. Use an EPUB you are allowed to copy and that Apple Books can open. A protected store purchase cannot be moved simply by changing its filename.

02

Import through the share sheet

On iPhone or iPad, open the downloaded file and choose Share → Books. On a Mac, open or drag the EPUB into Books. Confirm the correct cover and table of contents before deleting the download from Files.

03

Pick one place for active reading

Apple Books and Binge Reader keep separate reading state. If cross-device Binge Reader progress and annotations matter, use the Binge Reader web reader on Apple devices. If you prefer Apple Books, treat it as the active reader and export notes separately when needed.

A few things worth asking.

Is Apple Books the same app as iBooks?

Yes. Apple renamed iBooks to Apple Books; the file-import workflow described here applies to the current Apple Books app.

Can I sync Apple Books progress with Binge Reader?

There is no direct progress or highlight sync. Use the Binge Reader web reader if shared Binge Reader state is the priority.

Can Binge Reader import my protected Apple Books purchases?

No. Store protection and account rights still apply; Binge Reader does not bypass DRM.
