Install the plugin, open its Sync settings, and enable two-way highlights and bookmarks where supported. Highlight a passage, close the book or run a manual sync, then find the annotation in Binge Reader by book and source.
Start with one EPUB test
Use a book downloaded from the plugin catalog so file matching is unambiguous. Add a short highlight and note, close the book, and inspect the Binge Reader annotation hub before importing years of existing marks.
Understand the timing
Open-book changes live in memory until a close, suspend, periodic push, or manual action sends them. Changes made while a book stays closed may wait for the next full-library sweep.
Keep format limits visible
Annotation capabilities differ by format and server capability. PDF bookmarks and web-created PDF highlights may not make the same round trip as EPUB annotations. Preserve an export before replacing files or resolving a conflict.
The details, at a glance.
| Consider | What to look for |
|---|---|
| EPUB highlight | Best first round-trip test |
| Closed book | May wait for a manual sweep |
| PDF annotation | Check the supported direction |
| Conflict | Review both versions before choosing |
A few things worth asking.
Why is a recent highlight missing?
Close or suspend the book, reconnect, and run sync. If it was changed while closed, use Sync all books now.
Do all PDF annotations sync both ways?
No. PDF positions and bookmark behavior have format-specific limits. Test your exact workflow before relying on a round trip.
