Open a book’s details, choose Edit, correct the fields that identify and organize it, select the right primary file, save, and then search or browse to confirm the result appears where expected.
Fix identity before decoration
Correct title, author, edition, language, and identifiers first. These fields help distinguish a duplicate from another translation or revision. A better cover should not conceal that two records describe different editions.
Keep series structured
Store the series name and order in their dedicated fields rather than prefixing the title. Use consistent spelling across volumes. Record omnibus contents or alternate reading order in notes when one number is not enough.
Choose the primary format deliberately
The primary file controls common reading and delivery decisions. Choose EPUB for an eligible Kobo workflow; keep PDF when fixed layout matters. Preserve useful alternate formats on the same edition record when appropriate.
The details, at a glance.
| Consider | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Identity | Title, author, edition, language, identifiers |
| Organization | Series, order, genres, and tags |
| Presentation | Cover and description |
| Delivery | Primary file and useful alternate formats |
A few things worth asking.
Does editing metadata rewrite the original file?
Catalog edits and embedded-file changes are different operations. Keep the original and verify any explicit write-back action before using it.
Why did a Kobo book not update immediately?
Metadata changes are offered on a later Kobo sync. Run Sync and check that the book remains eligible through a synced collection.
