Choose the Android reader before choosing a sync method. A file-transfer tool can deliver the EPUB, but the Kobo reader and Android app need a compatible reading-state route to share your place.
Name both readers
An Android phone or e-ink device can run several apps. Each may keep its own database and annotations. Put the app name beside each device in your plan; hardware compatibility alone cannot establish sync.
Keep delivery simple
Use one source file and one delivery path during testing. Multiple transfer tools can create duplicate records that look identical on the bookshelf but carry different internal identifiers.
Test disconnected reading
Read on the phone offline, reconnect it, and let changes settle before opening the Kobo. Repeat in reverse. If an app presents a conflict, compare the passages before selecting a saved position.
The details, at a glance.
| Consider | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Android app | Choose the reader that will own your state |
| File delivery | Confirm the same edition reaches both devices |
| Sync service | Verify position and annotation support |
| Offline use | Check the order changes are reconciled |
A few things worth asking.
Does Android guarantee compatibility with Kobo?
No. Compatibility belongs to a specific combination of reader software, files, and sync services.
Will cloud file sync carry bookmarks?
Only if the reader’s bookmark data is included in a supported workflow. The EPUB alone may not contain it.
